Reading sector conditions from openly published information.
The Observatory is a prototype method for describing sector conditions using sources anyone can inspect. Where a source does not exist, the record says so instead of estimating.
What the prototype does
It is a method under test, not a data product.
- Records each indicator with its publisher, publication date and collection method.
- Separates what a source states from what an analyst reads into it.
- States Insufficient Evidence where public data does not support a conclusion.
- Flags Conflicting Evidence where two published sources disagree.
Boundaries we do not cross
- No access to government, regulator or banking systems
- No official mandate, authority or endorsement
- No private or client data used in public views
- No statistic published without a named, checkable source
- No forecast presented as a fact
- No sector rating where evidence is insufficient
Current status
The prototype terminal is open
The Observatory terminal covers all configured SADC countries and the controlled industry taxonomy. Records appear only where a public source has been registered and reviewed; everywhere else the terminal states Insufficient Evidence rather than filling the space with example numbers.
